Our story
Feel and eat like a local
Castello is a family-run taverna on Mylos Square beneath the Kastro, at the edge of Skopelos Town. It opened in 2023 and is run by our family, the same family that has run the Vrachos cocktail bar, one hundred and eight steps above the port, since 2016. We cook traditionally, and every evening of the season a small band of three musicians plays.
Mylos Square
From the harbour the way leads through the lanes of the Chora. At the edge of the town, Mylos Square opens out. The wall of the Venetian Kastro stands above it, and in front of it lie the bay and the open Aegean.
The white chairs, the blue-and-white checked tablecloths and the string lights above the stones are our small addition to a place that was here long before us.
2018: The Mylos taverna
Before Castello, from 2018, the taverna Mylos ran on Mylos Square.
2023: Castello opens
In 2023 our family opened Castello on the same square, directly beneath the Kastro. Castello is the Italian word for castle, and the name suits a place with one standing above it.
We are the family that has run Vrachos since 2016, the cocktail bar that has operated since 1992, one hundred and eight steps above the port. Castello was the natural continuation: food, music and the same family hospitality.
It is a family business in every sense. At Castello you will find the same people every evening, in no hurry.
The kitchen
We are mainly a taverna of meats and traditional Greek cooking: grills, meze, salads, plates for sharing. We use many of the local products we find, when the season allows. We do not serve seafood.
The menu and its prices change through the season, so you will find it on the table rather than here. If you have allergies or dietary needs, tell us.
The music
Every evening of the season, from May to October, a small band of three musicians plays live at Castello: guitar, bouzouki and double bass. They play traditional Greek songs, at a volume that lets the table talk.
Music up at the Kastro is an old Skopelos habit and we keep it alive. Castello is open every evening from 7 pm to 1 am.
What defines us
Family
Castello is run by a family, not a company. The people who welcome you are the same people who decide what goes on the plate.
Traditional cooking
Grills, meze and salads, with many of the local products we find.
Live music
Three musicians every evening of the season, with a traditional Greek repertoire.
Hospitality under the Kastro
A table in a place with two and a half thousand years of history. We look after it as if it were the front room of our home.
Our family on Skopelos
Vrachos
Cocktails over the Aegean, 108 steps above the harbour, at a bar open since 1992 and run by our family since 2016. Start the evening there and come to Castello for dinner, three to four minutes away on foot.
Eternal Skopelos
The family's wedding company. It organises weddings, receptions and private evenings at Castello and at Vrachos, and is the only way to book either venue.
